Hygien-E: Preventing the

Hygien-E.com is the home to one of the most effective tools to fight
against the neglect and abuse of individuals challenged with a
developmental disability.
Activities of Daily Living: The birthplace of neglect
Whether it’s infants, elderly or the developmentally disabled it is the
everyday tasks and necessities of life where neglect begins. In most
cases it’s not due to criminal intent but the over sized caseloads and
overwhelming emotional toll extracted from the caregiver, particularly
over a period of time. Then, what starts out as neglect soon turns into
abuse. In those instances this abuse and neglect is preventable and
can be remedied with Hygien-E.
From our beginnings as Group Home providers for developmentally
disabled adults over 13 years ago we have become the Nation’s only
not-for-profit creators and providers of a proprietary essential care
program specifically designed for developmentally challenged individuals
that addresses and prevents the neglect that so often leads to abuse.
The Statistics
As indicated above neglect and abuse occurs with infants, elderly and
the developmentally disabled. Every year an estimated 2.1 million
elderly Americans are victims of physical, psychological, or other forms
of abuse and neglect according to the American Psychological Association.
Every 42 seconds a child suffers abuse with 80% due to neglect according
to the National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System (NCANDS). Yet
experts conservatively estimate that people with developmental disabilities
are at least four times more likely to be victimized than those listed above
and are at the highest risk of victimization. National statistics reveal that
nearly 90% of individuals with a developmental disability may be a
victim of abuse, neglect or exploitation at some point during their life
according to the Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities. That is a
staggering 7.2 million people with special needs.
We couldn’t agree more with the Zero Tolerance Action Plan adopted by
the Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities quoted above, which is exactly
what Hygien-E does. We empower the developmentally disabled consumer
and reduce the involvement of the caregiver giving less opportunity for neglect
and abuse. Help us put an end to the neglect and abuse of the developmentally
disabled by financially supporting the efforts of Hygien-E.
We Need Your Help
over 8 million individuals challenged with a developmental disability. A
tremendous amount of resources have been directed toward the caregivers to
combat neglect and abuse among special needs by addressing the problem
after it occurs. Unfortunately, there has been little done for the participant where
it could impact the problem before it occurs. We have the opportunity to change
the lives of millions of people across the Country - both the developmentally
disabled and the caregivers - But it takes MONEY to make a DIFFERENCE.
The money we raise is used directly to produce and distribute the Hygien-E
programs and board games. For every $30 we receive, we are able to
manufacture and deliver to one person with special needs, their own copy of
Hygien-E which they'll use everyday for the rest of their life.
Whether you can help by donating $30 for one Hygien-E program or you're able
to donate $30 per month for one Hygien-E program per month for the next
12 months, all we ask is that you donate what you can. $30 is a LOT of money for
individuals who rely on SSI or SSDI for their very existence and have extremely
limited resources.
